April 2016:

The Shepherd’s Welcome Centre’s (SWC) mandate is to provide services and activities to persons over 50 years of age and to help them live healthy, active, socially fulfilled lives. SWC is a vital and growing non-profit registered charity with 300 plus participants from Brockville and area. A unique aspect of this friendly and welcoming activity centre is that every person on the board, or who leads one of our 20+ courses and activities, is a volunteer thus keeping SWC affordable.

The SWC Board is responsible for providing oversight and accountability for:

• The activities and services provided by SWC
• Recruitment and support for volunteer activity leaders
• Financial stewardship.

SWC needs people who will embrace our mandate and who have some understanding of the needs of the population we serve. We are actively seeking people who would like to apply their skills, experience and talents to serve on our board.

We are looking for individuals who are prepared to make a meaningful commitment by attending 10 board meetings per year and to take on one of the positions that are needed to help make SWC function smoothly. All new board members are mentored into their respective position.  The normal term for a director is two (2) years, with no restriction on the number of consecutive terms that may be served.

With some current long-serving directors considering stepping down,  we will have two (2) such board of directors positions to fill. This will be accomplished through our recruitment process under the direction of our recently convened nominating committee. The slate of candidates selected will then stand for election at our upcoming May 11, 2016 AGM.
