The mandate of the Brockville 50+ Activity Centre is to enhance the lives of those 50 and over by providing affordable programs and activities that will keep people mentally, physically and socially active, in a friendly and welcoming environment.
A volunteer-based, not-for-profit organization, and a registered charity, all activities, administration, leadership, and behind the scenes work are provided by dedicated volunteers. We rely on participant fees and donations, including an annual donation from the Shepherd’s Centre (Brockville) Foundation, in addition to many volunteer hours.
Over fall and winter semesters, we offer a wide range of daytime activities and programs in the following areas:
Our History
In January 1979, a group of five community members and church leaders—called The Founding Five—started a group to support seniors living at home in the Brockville area. This was the first of its kind in Canada!
By April 1980, it became officially known as The Brockville Good Shepherd Centre. Over the next 18 years, with help from the government, the Centre offered lots of services like Meals on Wheels, rides, foot care, friendly phone calls and visits, as well as social activities, trips, dances, and dinners.
In 1998, when government support decreased, the Centre moved to Wall Street United Church and was renamed The Shepherd’s Welcome Centre. Thanks to a generous donation and fundraising, social and recreational activities kept going strong.
Then, in 2018, the name changed again to what it is today—Brockville 50+ Activity Centre. We’re still growing and offering more fun and helpful programs for adults 50 and over!
