Mosaic Art (Monday, 1:15-4:00)
Leader: Rosalie Morris
Capacity: 28
Location: SA South

Mosaics is the art of creating a design on a surface by setting small pieces of china or coloured glass or other materials (eg. metals, jewelry, etc.) in a bed of adhesive and then grouting the piece. Whether a simple trivet, wall hanging, garden art or glass on glass mosaic, interior or exterior, the choices are endless and participants choose their projects. You will receive lots of instruction on design, materials and colour choices, as well as glass and china cutting skills and techniques from the leader. Sharing ideas and getting help from group members who are experienced in making mosaics is invaluable. Attendance during the first month is especially important for new participants, to benefit from lots of training provided weekly. Very few supplies and mosaic tools are needed to create a project. A full set of tools can cost between $40-$100 depending on the type of mosaics and the style you develop. Participants are welcome to borrow tools to get started. We recommend you purchase tools gradually. A list of recommended tools and supplies and where to obtain them is provided by the leader before the first class. Thrift stores or flea markets are ideal to purchase dishes for projects. Participants who choose a high priority for this activity will be considered first.
