All activities are listed in the current schedule on the website under the Activities menu. Each activity has detailed information on what it’s about, what abilities are required, if there are prerequisites, what the class capacity is, location and what the leader’s process is for choosing participants. There are also videos for many of the activities to have a visual understanding. It is important to check the activity schedule to ensure your choices don’t conflict and you have enough time to move between classes. Please review the descriptions before you apply as this information is not available on the application form.
The application form will be available online. You will be asked to accurately complete personal contact information and emergency contact information (in case you require medical assistance). Select each activity you would like to apply to by picking a number from the priority drop-down on each selection. You may choose as many activities as you desire.
Each activity requires you to choose a priority between 1 and 4. Priority 1 is your top choice, followed by Priority 2 as second, Priority 3 as third and Priority 4 for your remaining activity selections. You can only choose one of each of the top 3 priorities but can have as many Priority 4s as you like. This means you need to decide the order of activities that you most wish to take
Any activity that has only one selection being Priority 4 means the leader will accept all applicants and you do not need to make a choice. Click on Priority 4 to apply to that activity.
Check the activity descriptions for comments from the leaders to how they are making their selection of participants. Activities that normally do not fill to capacity may be set to Priority 4 so that you won’t have to make a decision. The remaining activities you will have to prioritize in hopes you are accepted into your top choices. Select your top 3 for the high priorities 1, 2 and 3, and for the rest select Priority 4 which has no limit.
Every effort is made to ensure participants can continue with the learning growth in any of the activities that have prerequisites such as languages, music or line dancing. However, for those activities that are most popular, the applicant should set a high priority to ensure success in being selected to return. Review the activity descriptions to understand how the leader is selecting their participants
If you completed your Application form correctly, you will receive a confirmation email listing all the activities you applied to. If the email is not received within an hour after applying and you have checked your Spam folder as well, you may have not completed the Application form correctly. Contact the Help Desk at helpdesk@fiftyplusbrockville.ca and they can verify if it was received. The Help Desk will respond within a day of receiving your email.
Once you have completed the application successfully, you will receive an email confirming your application was received and it will list all the activities you had applied to. If you made an error in your choices, then reapply selecting every activity you wish to take. The first application will be voided. The week before classes start you should receive an email (or phone call if you do not have an electronic device) from each activity leader confirming your status in the class (enrolled, waitlisted or declined).
Anyone can fill in the application form with you on your behalf. Alternatively, you can call the 50+ office at 613-345-2412 to schedule an appointment in advance to go to the office for someone to assist you to complete your application.
Payment information is provided on the website under the Registration menu, in the Application form and will be included in the confirmation email sent when you complete your application. As soon as you have completed your application you are encouraged to proceed to make payment by e-transfer or cheque. We do not accept cash but will accept a money order.
Brockville 50+ is growing in numbers each semester therefore cannot guarantee an applicant will be successful in getting into every activity they select. In our attempt to be fair by using a priority system, we are doing our best to try to ensure each applicant gets into at least one activity. We are continually trying to add more activities each semester or expand the capacity in popular current activities to offer more to our ever growing Activity Centre participants.
Most activities start the third week of September in the Fall semester and the third week of January in the Winter semester. However, not all leaders are prepared to start that week so please pay attention to the emails sent to you to when your activity starts. You can also go to the Brockville 50+ website under Activities menu, Activity Schedule which will provide the information on when each activity will start and end
If you had received a confirmation email when you applied, then you should have been notified for each of your activity selections. Most classes start the third week in September or January. If you did not receive confirmation for an activity by the beginning of classes, contact the Brockville 50+ office at 613-345-2412.
